About PCM 150mg Injection
PCM 150mg Injection is a sterile solution of paracetamol, a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic, providing 150 mg of paracetamol per ml. It belongs to the class of medicines known as anilides and is used for short-term management of moderate pain and fever, especially when oral administration is not possible.
This injection is typically prescribed for patients recovering from surgery, those with severe pain not responding to oral analgesics, or individuals unable to swallow. It works centrally to reduce pain perception and lower elevated body temperature, offering relief within 30 minutes of intravenous administration.

Key Benefits
- Rapid Pain Relief — paracetamol injection works quickly to alleviate moderate pain from injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions.
- Effective Fever Reduction — it acts on the brain’s thermostat to bring down high body temperature safely.
- Alternative When Oral Route Is Unavailable — ideal for patients who are fasting, nauseous, or unconscious.
- Minimal Gastric Side Effects — unlike NSAIDs, paracetamol does not irritate the stomach lining.
What PCM 150mg Injection Is Used For
PCM 150mg Injection is indicated in the following conditions:
- Acute moderate pain (post-operative, trauma, renal colic)
- Fever not controlled by oral antipyretics
- As an alternative to opioid-sparing multimodal analgesia
How to Take PCM 150mg Injection
PCM 150mg Injection is administered by a doctor or nurse either as an intravenous infusion (over 15 minutes) or as a deep intramuscular injection. The dosage depends on body weight and severity, usually 500mg to 1000mg every 4–6 hours, not exceeding 4 grams per day in adults. For children, dosing is weight-based.
- It is given with the patient lying down and under close monitoring.
- The IV route is preferred for faster onset; undiluted solution should not be injected as a bolus.
- Treatment duration is generally short (2–3 days); consult the doctor if pain or fever persists.
Missed Dose & Overdose
- Missed dose: In a hospital setting, missing a dose is unlikely. If you are being given this injection on a schedule and a dose is missed, inform the nurse immediately. Do not request a double dose.
- Overdose: Overdose can cause severe liver damage, especially if more than 4 grams per day are given. Immediate medical attention is critical; symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in the first 24 hours.
Storage & Handling
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from direct light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Unused portion should be discarded appropriately as per biomedical waste guidelines.
How it works
Paracetamol relieves pain and reduces fever by acting primarily on the central nervous system. It inhibits the COX-2 enzyme in the brain, lowering prostaglandin synthesis, which helps reset the body’s thermostat and dampen pain signals.
Side effects
Most people tolerate PCM 150mg Injection well. Side effects are usually mild and transient.
Common side effects
- Pain or swelling at injection site — apply a cool compress if bothersome
- Nausea — stay hydrated and report if persistent
- Rash or itching — inform the nurse
Seek medical help immediately if you notice
- Difficulty breathing or swelling of face/lips (allergic reaction)
- Unusual tiredness or yellowing of skin/eyes (liver damage)
Who should not take this
- Allergy: Known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or propacetamol.
- Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Paracetamol can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Consult your doctor.
- Existing conditions: Use with caution in liver or kidney disease, chronic malnutrition, or alcoholism. Dose adjustment may be required.
- Drug interactions: Warfarin (regular paracetamol use may increase INR), certain anticonvulsants (may enhance hepatotoxicity). Always tell your doctor about all medicines you take.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol during treatment as it increases the risk of liver injury.
